UMEVO Note AIREC Manual: Setup, Recording & Hard Reset

Published: | Updated:
UMEVO Note AIREC Manual: Setup, Recording & Hard Reset

Quick answer: This is the user manual for the legacy UMEVO Note recorder that uses the AIREC mobile app. To perform a hard reset, stop and save any active recording, disconnect the recorder from a computer, and then press and hold the recorder's round button for 15 seconds. Release the button and check whether the recorder responds normally. If necessary, reconnect it from inside the AIREC app.

Important: A hard reset restores the recorder's operating state; it is not the same as formatting its storage. Back up important recordings before troubleshooting, and do not delete or format files unless you have confirmed that another usable copy exists.

This guide applies to the original UMEVO Note/AIREC recorder with a screen, a sliding power switch, and one round control button. It does not apply to UMEVO Note Plus, which uses the AI DVR Link app and a different control workflow. Note Plus owners should use the official UMEVO Note Plus user manual.

Instructions, specifications, support details, and links were reviewed on July 31, 2026.

UMEVO Note AIREC Manual: Quick Start

  1. Charge with a 5V source. Use the original data cable and, when possible, a computer USB port. Do not use a 9V fast charger.
  2. Install AIREC. Search for "AIREC" in the Apple App Store or Google Play on your phone.
  3. Turn on the recorder. Move the side switch upward.
  4. Pair inside AIREC. Open the app, tap + unconnected, tap Connect device, and select the AIREC recorder shown in the list.
  5. Check the Bluetooth icon. A flashing icon means the recorder is waiting to connect; a steady icon means it is connected.
  6. Start recording. When connected, press and hold the round button for two seconds. When working without the app, move the side switch upward to begin local recording.
  7. Save before transferring. Press and hold the round button for two seconds to save, or move the switch down to save and power off before connecting the recorder to a computer.

First-use test: Make a 20-second recording, save it, play it back, and confirm that it appears in the expected location before using the recorder for an important meeting or interview.

Identify Your UMEVO Recorder and App

UMEVO has released more than one recorder and app workflow. Confirm the model before following reset, pairing, or recording instructions.

What you have App or workflow Use this guide?
Original UMEVO Note/AIREC recorder with a display, sliding switch, and round button AIREC mobile app Yes
UMEVO Note Plus AI DVR Link No. Use the Note Plus manual.
UMEVO-SL Note with a different screen or control layout Check the model-specific manual No. Controls and specifications may differ.

If the app name, button layout, or screen in front of you does not match this page, stop before resetting the device. Using the correct model guide prevents accidental file loss and avoids mixing instructions from different UMEVO generations.

How to Hard Reset the AIREC Recording Pen

Use the 15-second reset when the original UMEVO Note/AIREC recorder is powered but does not respond normally, a control is frozen, or ordinary restart and charging checks have not solved the problem.

  1. If the recorder is still responding, stop and save the current recording.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable and close any active file transfer.
  3. Press and hold the recorder's round button continuously for 15 seconds.
  4. Release the button, then check the screen and controls.
  5. If you use the mobile app, open AIREC and reconnect the recorder from + unconnected > Connect device.
  6. Make and save a short test recording before returning to important work.
UMEVO Note AIREC controls showing a two-second press to record or save and a 15-second hold to reset
On the original AIREC recorder, a two-second press controls recording while a 15-second hold performs the reset.

Reset versus erase: The legacy instructions describe this as a reset or factory reset, but users should not treat it as a secure storage wipe. A reset is intended to recover the recorder's operating state. Formatting or deleting recordings is a separate action and should only be done after a verified backup.

If the recorder remains unresponsive, charge it with the original cable from a 5V USB source, then repeat the reset once. Repeated resets are unlikely to solve a damaged cable, empty battery, full storage, or hardware fault.

Install AIREC and Pair with Bluetooth

AIREC is the mobile companion app for this legacy recorder. Search for AIREC in your phone's app store and install the listing that matches the recorder instructions. Grant the Bluetooth and nearby-device permissions requested by the app; the exact permission wording depends on the phone and operating-system version.

  1. Move the recorder's side switch upward to turn it on.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on the phone.
  3. Open AIREC and tap + unconnected.
  4. Tap Connect device.
  5. Select the AIREC recorder shown in the device list.
  6. Wait for the recorder's Bluetooth icon to stop flashing and remain steady.

Start the connection from inside AIREC. A flashing Bluetooth icon means waiting; a fixed icon means connected.

If no recorder appears, keep the recorder near the phone, confirm that AIREC has Bluetooth permission, close and reopen the app, and try again. Do not assume that pairing only from the phone's general Bluetooth settings completes the AIREC app connection.

Record Without the App

The recorder can capture audio locally without an active phone connection. This is useful when you need a fast standalone recording or do not want to keep the app open.

  1. Move the side switch upward to start local recording.
  2. Lightly press the round button once to pause or resume.
  3. Press the button twice lightly to lock the screen. Press once to unlock it.
  4. Press and hold the button for two seconds to save the recording.
  5. Move the switch down to save and power off.

During pause, the display may show an estimate of the remaining recording duration based on available storage. That number is not remaining battery life.

Record with the AIREC App

After the Bluetooth icon becomes steady, you can control recording from the hardware or the app.

Use the recorder button

  • Press and hold for two seconds to start recording.
  • Press and hold for two seconds again to save the recording.

Use the app

  1. Open the recording screen in AIREC.
  2. Select an available mode, such as recording only or recording with transcription.
  3. Tap the microphone control to begin.
  4. Use the confirmation control to save when finished.

Available app functions may depend on app version, account status, language, network availability, and any plan applied to the account. Confirm the mode and language before an important session instead of assuming the previous settings are still active.

Pause, Save, and Confirm a Recording

The most important file-safety habit is to distinguish pause from save. A light press during local recording pauses or resumes the session; a two-second hold saves it.

  1. Watch the timer for several seconds after starting. A changing timer confirms that recording has begun.
  2. Use a light press only when you intend to pause or resume.
  3. At the end, press and hold for two seconds and wait for the saved state.
  4. Open the file list and play the beginning and end of the recording.
  5. Only after confirming playback should you connect to a computer, delete a local copy, or begin another critical session.

When recording through the app, confirm both the recorder state and the app state. Bluetooth connection alone does not prove that a recording is running.

Transfer Recordings to a Computer

The published workflow documents AIREC as a mobile app. For a Windows PC or Mac, use the recorder as USB storage and transfer the audio files with the original data cable.

  1. Stop and save the active recording.
  2. Connect the recorder to the computer with the original data cable.
  3. Wait for the removable storage device to appear.
  4. Copy the required WAV files to a named folder on the computer.
  5. Open at least one copied file and check playback before deleting anything from the recorder.
  6. Eject the storage device through the operating system before unplugging the cable.

If the recorder charges but does not appear as storage, the cable may provide power without reliable data transfer. Use the original data cable, try another USB port, and avoid hubs while troubleshooting.

Transcribe, Summarize, and Manage Files

In AIREC, tap a recording to play it, use the progress control to seek, and open the available transcription, summary, mind-map, edit, transfer, or sharing tools. Swipe left on a file when the app version exposes edit or delete actions.

AIREC app file playback, edit, transcription, summary, mind-map, and sharing controls
AIREC playback and file-management controls shown in the original UMEVO Note guide.

If an app file will not play and a cloud copy is visible, first verify that the cloud copy is complete and accessible. Only then remove the failed local app copy and download it again. Never use deletion as the first troubleshooting step when the cloud or computer backup has not been verified.

Transcription quality depends on source-audio quality, distance, background noise, overlapping speech, language selection, and network processing. Keep the recorder close enough to the speakers and review names, numbers, dates, and decisions against the audio.

Charge the Recorder Safely

  • Use the original data cable.
  • Use a 5V charging source.
  • A computer USB port is the default charging method documented for this recorder.
  • If using an adapter, the legacy guide specifies a charging current of 1A or below.
  • Do not use a 9V fast-charge source; the original product warning states that it may damage the recorder.
  • While charging, the battery indicator changes. At full charge, the screen displays Full charge.

For long-term storage, charge and discharge the recorder at least once every three months. Keep it away from excessive heat and inspect the cable and charging port before use.

UMEVO Note Technical Specifications

Specification Original UMEVO Note/AIREC value
Product type Smart app recorder
Recording method Power-on recording and power-off saving; button controls vary by connection state
Sampling rate 48 kHz
Storage capacity 64 GB
Bit rate 256 kbps
Recording format WAV
Published storage-duration estimate Approximately 540 hours
Connectivity Bluetooth and USB
Companion app AIREC mobile app

Do not confuse storage duration with battery life. The approximately 540-hour figure is the published estimate for how much 256 kbps audio can fit in the recorder's 64 GB storage. Actual usable capacity can be lower because of file-system overhead and existing files.

AIREC Troubleshooting

Storage appears full Existing WAV files and whether they have been backed up Copy and verify files on a computer before deleting recordings from the device.

Data Safety and Maintenance

  • Save the current recording before connecting the recorder to a computer.
  • Use the original data cable for file access and charging.
  • Keep two verified copies of important recordings before deleting the device copy.
  • Eject the USB storage device before unplugging it.
  • Do not format storage as a general response to pairing or app problems.
  • Test the recorder, storage, battery, and app before each high-value session.
  • Obtain any consent required for recording in your location and situation.

A transcription or summary is a working derivative of the audio, not a replacement for the source recording. Retain the original file when accuracy, auditability, or dispute resolution matters.

UMEVO Note and AIREC Frequently Asked Questions

How do I factory reset an AIREC recording pen?

Stop and save the current recording, disconnect USB, and press and hold the round recorder button for 15 seconds. Release it, check the recorder, and reconnect from inside AIREC if needed. Back up important recordings first; a device reset is not the same as securely formatting storage.

Is there an AIREC app for PC?

The published UMEVO Note workflow documents AIREC as a mobile app, not a Windows or Mac desktop app. On a computer, save the current recording and connect the recorder with the original USB data cable to copy its WAV files.

Why is the Bluetooth icon flashing?

A flashing Bluetooth icon means the recorder is waiting to connect. Open AIREC, tap + unconnected, tap Connect device, and select the recorder. The icon remains fixed when connected.

How do I save a recording?

Press and hold the round button for two seconds to save. In local mode, moving the side switch down also saves the current recording and powers off the recorder. Confirm the file by playing it back.

Does the UMEVO Note record for 540 hours on one charge?

No. Approximately 540 hours is the published storage-duration estimate for 64 GB at 256 kbps. It is not a battery-runtime claim.

Can I use a fast charger?

Use a 5V source. The original manual warns against 9V fast charging and specifies an adapter current of 1A or below for this legacy recorder.

Why does my UMEVO Note Plus not match these instructions?

UMEVO Note Plus is a different model that uses AI DVR Link. Follow the UMEVO Note Plus user manual instead of the AIREC steps on this page.

UMEVO Note Support and Next Steps

If the original UMEVO Note remains unresponsive after a correct 5V charge and one 15-second reset, or if important files are missing, stop deleting or formatting data and contact UMEVO support. Include the model name, purchase details, phone model, app version, screen behavior, and the troubleshooting steps already completed.

Use the current UMEVO Contact Support page or email support@umevo.ai. For Note Plus, use the current model-specific manual because its app and controls differ from this AIREC guide.

Bottom line: For the legacy UMEVO Note/AIREC recorder, save first, hold the round button for 15 seconds only when a reset is needed, pair from inside AIREC, and use the original cable for 5V charging and USB file transfer. A short record-save-playback test is the fastest way to confirm that the complete workflow is ready.
